Push

A Push Notification is a message that is displayed on a User’s Phone outside the User Interface of a Mobile Application.

These message will typically wake up the Phone, appear as an icon on the Notification Bar, and in the Notification Drawer. Tapping the notification can trigger an action to be executed in the Mobile Application.

Push Notifications are intended to be near-real-time, though the delay on an iPhone can be significantly larger than on Android (increasing to several minutes).
