Decision

Revolutionizing Decision-Making in Healthcare

There was a time when healthcare was simple: If people had an STI, the solution was to administer mercury. Mental disorders were thought to be caused by evil spirits, so by drilling a hole in their skull they could be released. And when faced with a high fever, one would practice bloodletting. Back in December 1799, our esteemed founding father, George Washington, had a fever that was so high that he eventually succumbed to the bloodletting. Clearly, healthcare is far from simple. It’s a very complex field. Oh, and did we extend you a warm welcome to the information age?

If there is one field where the ability to make timely and accurate decisions is of utmost importance, it is the healthcare industry. That is why Connected Diagnostics is incredibly vital: the sooner we can get the right information, such as a diagnosis, the sooner we provide appropriate treatment, and help the patient regain a better quality of life. That said, obtaining the right information expeditiously is only part of the challenge. Being able to make the correct decision while considering all relevant information is equally crucial. For instance, a physician may have two medications that could treat an ailment, but without knowledge or awareness of the patient’s allergy to one of them, they might unknowingly prescribe the wrong one.

To address the latter issue, the Design System was conceived. It aids in decision-making by incorporating all pertinent information through the utilization of Decision Matrices. Decision Matrices enable the mapping of numerous independent data points to a fixed and predetermined set of conclusions.

It is important to notice that the Decisions System is not intended to replace human experience and intuition. But it could complement them. Additionally many decisions don’t depend on experience or intuition; instead they are simple left-or-right kind of decisions that are better left to an automated system. To the Decision System.
